In 2008 Diane Wiessinger (of Wiessingerizing fame) wrote an excellent Letter to the Editor of JHL, 24(4) pp.369-370. In it she said that "any high school student can tell that the norm - the control - in a study is not the group that's the subject of the experimental procedure. And most of them could tell you, if they thought about it, that breastfeeding is not an experiment." She also mentioned the AAP statement 2005 that "Exclusive breastfeeding is the reference or normative model against which all alternative feeding methods must be measured with regard to growth, health, development, and all other short- and long-term developments."

Diane asked that we insist that basic rules of scientific inquiry be observed. So how are the journals doing?? Letters to the Editor need to be written every time breastfeeding is not the norm in an article. Pat in SNJ (which is also why, as CBI RL keyword person, I tossed all the formula articles that only compared formula a to b)
