I am uncomfortable with either phenobarbital or ETOH as remedies for fear of
flying. This mom is traveling with an infant. She needs to have her brain
in operating order. I don't think it is relavant to worry about the effects
on the infant drinking her milk, she is not going to be able to cope with
the travel if she is under the influence of either. Fifteen years ago I also
was terrified of flying but got anoyed at all I was missing (I have opportunity
to travel with my husband) and decided to correct the problem. I knew it wasn't
rational, but it was overwhelming none the less. I did try drugs, valium,
sedatives and ETOH at different times. All that would happen was that I was
scared out of my gourd but also wierdly drugged. It didn't work! What did
work and worked well and is no longer necessary was Progressive Muscle
Relaxation and other deliberate stress reduction strategies. This is not
harmful to a nursing mother. She doesn't have time to get proficient at
this for this trip, but she may already know the strategies from her CB
classes.

Good Luck to her, my white knuckle trips were a drag.
The happy traveler - Ruth Sweet of WI.
