Hi everyone,

Looking for best practice information. I work in a free-standing pediatric hospital. We have families use microwave steam bags to sanitize breast pump kit parts once a day. We have to dedicated pump rooms in the NICU with microwaves for this purpose. These rooms are not accessible to families with children in our acute care areas.

In the acute care areas, the bags are microwaved in our nutrition room by our staff. During RSV/Flu season, these bags cannot be removed from the rooms or microwaved in the common area microwaves due to isolation precautions being observed.

What do your facilities do to sanitize the breast pump kit parts daily (per CDC guidelines) when the child is on contact/airborne/droplet isolation/precautions?

Thank you in advance,

Kristi
