Dear Lactnet Friends:

While I too would love more details, baby's growth was reported as normal
for the 6 weeks of exclusive breastfeeding.

I wonder what happened that she started supplementing. Like Heather, I wish
there was more detail. However, :"exclusive bf for 6 weeks" is clearly
stated. 4-8 ounces of formula daily suggests that the mother was making
most of what baby was getting, at least at the beginning of the
supplementation. We don't know if she kept pumping or not.

"
Three and a half months after she had started the mentioned regimen, the
baby was born weighing 6 lbs 13 oz. The patient breastfed exclusively for 6
weeks. During that time the child’s pediatrician reported that the child’s
growth, feeding, and bowel habits were developmentally appropriate. At 6
weeks, the patient began supplementing breastfeedings with 4–8 oz of
Similac brand formula daily due to concerns about insufficient milk volume.
At the time of this article submission, the baby is approaching 6 months
old. The patient continues to breastfeed as a supplement to formula
feeding, and she continues to adhere to the medication regimen described
earlier
."

Like Cathy Genna, I have had success in writing to an author to ask
questions.

An amazing story, illustrating possibilities..
