Here's a new treatment for engorgement that I never heard before. I was
giving a talk on breastfeeding to a mixed group of HCPs. A physician
(who happens to be the mother of a 14 month old) shared with us her
experience when her daughter was born. She had a Jamaican baby
nurse help her in the early weeks and she told the mother to put a whole
lime inside her bra, right under her armpits. She said that it's important to
scrape the skin first with a fork to release the active ingredients. She
said after 12 hours of wearing the limes her engorgement was gone.
She said her breasts were so small she feared her milk was gone too.
The baby nurse told her 12 hours was probably too long. She also tried
cabbage and did the same thing with the fork. The lime worked better
than the cabbage.
