Fifty-four local child-care providers recently attended "The Best
Care," a training session offered by Marion and Baxter county offices
of the University of Arkansas Cooperative Extension Service.

"The Best Care" is verified training through the Arkansas Early
Childhood Professional Development System, according to a press
release.

"Quality child care is a critical need for many of our area's working
families," according to the release.

By participating in "The Best Care," area providers explored ways to
reduce on-the-job stress and to improve their working environments;
nutrition basics and new ideas for understanding development,
supporting breastfeeding, introducing foods and encouraging healthy
eating; identifying hazards and controlling illness; planning safe and
successful field trips; planning rainy-day activities; teaching
appropriate math concepts for young children; and recognizing the
signs and developmental consequences of child abuse and neglect and
providers' responsibilities as mandated reporters, according to the
release.
