After searching through all 234 posts in the archives regarding sepsis, I
cannot find an answer to this question.

Mom of 7 month infant is exclusively breastfeeding. Solids have been
offered but withdrawn due to allergic reaction. Mom was bitten by something
(what is unknown - an insect is likely.) Mom has one arm completely swollen
and now has systemic symptoms. She is hospitalized as of this afternoon and
Dr is concerned about sepsis. Mom had been instructed to pump & dump. I
cannot find any information on safety of breastfeeding an older infant when
mom has sepsis. Infectious disease specialist coming in the morning to see
if we can get an actual diagnosis of what the underlying bacterial infection
is. Does anyone have any idea on what is safe for this mom/baby?

Thanks,

Linda Pohl, IBCLC, RLC
