Dear ones,

I bopped over to the hospital to see a couple of clients today and was waylaid
by one of the nurses who asked me if I had seen "Health Beat" on the local
news channel (here in Chicago).  Being that I ONLY watch ER & Mad About You, I
hadn't.  Apparently they were discussing drugs and breastfeeding and stating
that there were many drugs that were incompatible with breastfeeding,
including, and get this!!, bisacodyl (Dulcolax)!  It was right up there with
cocaine, alcohol, and radioactive drugs.

Now unless someone has something new to tell me, according to Tom's Meds &
Mom's Milk (my paraphrase), this is safe as it works primarily on the colon
itself and is poorly absorbed from the GI track.  I went home, looked it up,
called the nurse back and read her the statement from the book.  Of course,
she's afraid they'll get tons of questions -- not that they use it frequently
in OB, but they do use the suppositories occasionally.

Since I didn't see the program, I'm not really in a position to comment.  Any
other Chicagoans see it and can comment?

Breastfeeding support is tough enough without adding MORE misinformation to
the pot.

Sigh.
