Subject: female use of viagra and the potential BF risks

Dear Kathleen,
I was wondering if you could do me a favor. I am a CLC, have not practiced
in quite awhile just had my 4th baby and am now tandem nursing my 31/2 year
old and my 81/2 month old.
I have a rather advanced question that I could use some advanced knowledge.
I have been taking Zoloft at 200mg daily for quite some time. This has had
a strong effect on my ability to orgasm., I live in Boston area and there
is an ongoing study on the use of Viagra and women who take
anti-depressants. I am breastfeeding, so I am unable to participate. So I
spoke with my psychiatrist and she and I did some research and found out
that that adult 1/2 life of Viagra is 4 hours. Even more is the molecular
weight of the drug is quite large at 666. Thomas Hale suggest that the
drug, although untested, may be too large to pass through the milk or bind
to protiens. I am not familiar with the cut off of (mw) and what types of
drugs are too big to pass into milk.
Going off of Zoloft is not an option, I have OCD, and Doc did agree to let
me try Viagra to see if it had any effect on me. I agreed to "pump and
dump" 5 hours of milk post dose. I would not be taking this daily only once
a week. So I don't forsee any buildup in me or the baby. By the way the
theoretical risk is basically spelled out for the male infant. My baby is a
male.
I would much appreciate if you could post this on LACTNET. I have not been
a subscriber in over 2 years and am too inundated with other stuff to
resume my postings, but I would very much appreciate hearing from you and
anyone else who may know anything about this issue. Please feel free to
post all needed info and my email address.
Thank you in advance for you help

Please reply to [log in to unmask] and to the list. Thanks. Kathleen
