<< I am sick to my stomach! I can't believe this! >>
I agree whole heartedly.
Liz Baldwin at the recent BSC conference talked about the use of Weasel Words
and I saw them in this "consent"
Someone is trying to whitewash the IDEA behind the consent.
Remind these nurses that they are educators as well as care givers (ask anyone
who has been through Joint Commission lately). The consent presented is a
typical, watered down view of supplementation.
As Laura Hart wrote "#1-5 should each have an explanation attached."
What does the original consent say?
What is the REAL reason they want to change it?
Was there a precipitating event?
Or could it be they really want to feed babies formula?
Lately I have been fed up with the attitudes of some of the hospital staff
members. Those that support breastfeeding are getting fewer and fewer.
Breastfeeding is getting lower and lower on the list of priorities. I want to
stop apologizing to the moms for poor or no staff breastfeeding assistance.
No matter what we've done in the way of educating the staff, nothing changes.
Those that buy into breastfeeding are great. Those that don't look like they
are deliberately sabotaging mom's efforts. I get the feeling they think I'm
just a zealot that needs to be ignored.
