Judy, this is interesting what your hospital is doing.  What brought  this
on, do you know?  Demerol certainly does not have a great record but  also it
does not have any serious untowed effects on babies, that I have  heard.  Our
hospital has discontinued Demerol completely.  They feel  that there are more
side effects and less benefit so it is gone.
Maybe writing to Tom Hale for some references and guidance will help.   I
certainly would fight this one and at least then request that breastfeeding
mothers be given another choice on analgesics.
