Dear Catherine,
Thanks for the generous reply.  It isn't respiratory thank goodness.  I really 
think it is habit.  His jaw is (wnl) as well as his tongue fitting in his mouth.  I 
like the idea of making him more prone.  We talked extensively about chin to 
breast and not the nose etc.  I had mom let him self latch while she was 
sidelying, first time she was able to do this.  Partly because of c/s.  Anyway, 
the pain went down and when he looked in her eyes of course the latch was 
great.  Another thing I noticed....The grandparents insisted on keeping the 
home temp at 78 degrees and overwrapping baby.  Well who wants to be 
snuggled close when you have on all those clothes.  We put him skin to skin 
and he improved.
