It is unlikely the baby got salmonella from the breastmilk.  The only way
that could happen is that the mother had it in her blood, something which
would have given her other symptoms than a bowel obstruction.  She would
have been quite sick, and even if it were so (that the salmonella were in
her blood-unlikely), it is there only a short period of time.

If the mother has (had) salmonella, it is much more likely the baby got it
from the oral fecal route (from contamination with stool) than from the
milk.  And from the fact that the baby is not *exclusively* breastfeeding.
