I just saw a mom today who has horrendous nipple damage. Baby is 3 weeks
old and doing well, has strong suck, and strong need to suck. Mom's right
breast is cracked so badly it looks like part of the nipple is about 3/4
detached. Left breast damaged but not nearly as bad. We worked
extensively tonight on latch of the left breast, mom pumped on right for
stimulation/engorgement. I told her not to let baby nurse on Right until
nipple healed and his latch improved. My question is, what is the best
treatment, besides correcting position and latch, to deal with such
extreme damage? I had advised her to stay away from lanisoah and breast
pads for now. I did an archive and internet search but only got
conflicting studies. COuld someone help advise me so that I can help this
poor mom?

Andrea, RN, (hopefully IBCLC in 2004)
