That doesn't sound very sensible to me. How much weight has the baby gained since birth? How bad is the reflux? All babies spit up. Breastmilk will not thicken anyway. Is this a first baby? Did mom have oversupply with a previous child? Has the child been getting bottles already?

Does the AAP have a new recommendation about this issue? I just heard today about a 4 day old who was taken off the breast for reflux. Mom was told to put milk in a bottle with 1.5 tsp for every 60 mL of breastmilk. It seems like this is turning into a first line of "treatment" and I am wondering if I have missed something.
