Winnie, those comments of yours are beautifully put. I believe we all need to see other colleagues' ways of explaining things sometimes - it helps freshen up our own practice. This is a very user friendly explanation, with the visual aspect of your demonstration, using the upside-down bottle, complementing the verbal explanation. You are a gem.

When discussing why it's best to give baby only mom in the mouth at
least the first month, I like to turn a bottle upside down and let
them see how the milk (actually I use water-cleaner) dribbles out.
I point out that when this happens in a baby's mouth, he has no
choice but to swallow it. I think sometimes the suck-swallow
sequence then gets "triggered" and baby keeps taking it until he
just can't handle any more and will frequently "give mom a refund" a
little later. Then the next time he goes to breast, he may be
frustrated, confused (or whatever) by the difference in feel,
immediate stimulation of the "s-spot", action, immediate flow, etc.
Any one or any combination of the differences can be a point of
confusion for any given baby.
