I was interested to see an article in the Age (highly regarded newspaper) on
a cult-like group in Australia. It dealt with a number of instances where
the group had done things that were regarded as unacceptable. The tone
definitely was 'nasty cult, nice people'.
One instance read as follows,
Heading under picture of husband and wife: The CEC criticised her for
breastfeeding and allegedly tried to break up her marriage.
Quote in paper: Mrs R. said she was criticised for breastfeeding her son of
two years of age. "I always thought breastfeeding was just a natural part
of womanhood" she said. "They said it was bad for a child to be so
dependent on its mother and that I would ruin his life. They made me feel as
if I was the worst person in the world".
I was delighted to read the tone of this section that treated not only
breastfeeding as normal, but extended breastfeeding as normal.
