This is a season of merriment and frenetic activity. It also is a time
when many mothers need lots of help. As you help your clients, please
remember the following:

a) Sage can reduce milk supply. Warn people about sage dressings in the
turkey and other recipes calling for sage that are often part of the
Holiday Smorgasbord.

b) REMEMBER: all posts to LACTNET are akin to writing above the fold on the
front page of a MAJOR newspaper. Not only can every LACTNUT read your
post, but so also can anyone in the world who accesses the LACTNET Archives
(and many many people are doing so!)

Please put a reminder string on your "send" finger and send such private
items as addresses, phone numbers, and the like PRIVATELY, not to the
entire list.

c) REMEMBER: prices of LC visits, books, videos, other resources, and the
like are considered advertising and are expressly forbidden on LACTNET.

d) REMEMBER: Announcing conferences is advertising and we cannot have them
on LACTNET. There are other excellent internet venues for this sort of
thing, such as LACTNEWS ON LINE. See Barbara Wilson-Clay for this service.

e) REMEMBER: desperate mothers seeking e-help should be referred to
mother-to-mother groups set up for this purpose, NOT Lactnet. Such posts
generate too much activity for us to deal with. Perhaps this is why the
co-mothers have received recent warnings of a dramatic increase in the
number of posts to LACTNET, so numerous on given days this past week that
the list was temporarily LOCKED for exceeding the expected number of posts!
Wow! We have increased that minimum number (in the hundreds, in case you
were wondering) so as to avoid such locking in the future.

f) Finally, make time for yourself, not just everyone else. Take time to
smell the pine (or whatever aromatic greenery grows nearby), to admire the
candlelight reflected in your neighbors' windows, the sun when it shines,
and the rain when it waters the flowers, the snow on the mountains, and the
classic contours of cacti in the deserts. In short, be good to yourself.
Without occasional respite from the madness of a busy holiday season, you
cannot help others. God bless....
