I am an IBCLC that also works as a FullTime Shift Manager on a Mother/Baby 
Unit.  We have approximately 1000 births per year. We have had great support 
from Management above in starting our onsight outpatient lactation clinic. We 
would like to have our clinic open 7 days a week, but don't have enough IBCLC 
staff to cover this many days.  A legal question that we posed to ourselves 
was this.  Can a Certified Breastfeeding Educator work in an outpatient setting 
without the IBCLC immediately on hand if "care plans" have been set up for 
treatment options and an IBCLC is available for consultation if needed.  Is 
there a regulatory agency that might set up this criteria, ie JCAHO.  Thanks
