Hello all,
I just finished reading over 1 wk of digests (wow!) and also survived my 10
yr re-cert exam! It was a challenging exam, I thought. Especially the photo
section. Anyway, I am just thinking about the pre-op regimen of pedialyte
for the 3 mo old requiring bowel surgery. The med-surg nurse gave a great
explanation for the necessary bowel preps and Dr. Wight gave us great food
for thought re resuming feeds post-op.

I was just wondering, could the baby have gradually decreasing percentages
of breastmilk feeds for the 3 days pre-op? What I mean is 3/4 strength
breastmilk (breastmilk diluted with sterile H20 or pedialyte), then 1/2
strength, then 1/4 strength, then H20 or pedialyte for the final day? I
would think this would be better received by the infant, and prevent excess
weight loss and possible short-term malnutrition or immunity issues??? Would
this even be feasible and allow the gut to be clean enough?
