Alfredo Pisacane spoke about the protective effects of breastfeeding and
the incidence of poliomyelitis in his talk at the LLL International
Conference in Washington, DC, July 4, 1997.  He has an article on this
topic, "Role of Breast-feeding in Paralytic Poliomyelitis," BMJ
1992;305:1367.

I saw the PBS program, too, and reacted just as you did.  I hope that the
viewers who are not breastfeeding advocates made the same connections as we
did!
