I need some help. Tonight I saw a baby who had lost 13 ounces in 5 days from
birth weight. Mom reported much difficulty latching on baby. I got baby
latched but to my amazement the milk was being lost from the babies mouth,
similar to the babies who are bottle fed. This is mom's third baby and
nursed the other two. I am looking in my books because in ten years I have
never seen anything like this. The doctor with whom I work says he has never
seen anything like it either, he called me in to see it. Mom will come back
on Monday. She has no pain while nursing and there is no clicking sound,
these two things I usually see with tongue thrusting at the breast. I am
thinking possible poor lip closure. Any ideas??
                                                                    Thanks,
Camille
