Dear All,

For those who want to make gifts to friends who have everything, while support breastfeeding mothers and babies, the answer may be the gift certificate sent when a project is supported in the friend's name - but which one?. One such gift certificate is supplied, by email, by the Alola Foundation in Timor-Leste (East Timor), when a donation is made to Alola's Maternal and Child Health program. The donation "supports breastfeeding information and counselling, assistance with breastfeeding, research into maternal mortality in Timor-Leste, and maternity packs". The maternity packs, which I have seen, are produced in Timor-Leste, providing work for local women on marginal incomes, and providing desperately poor mothers with clothes to take the new baby home in (which many didn't have in the past), as well as soap, washable sanitary pads, and breastfeeding information.

I have no conflict of interest in mentioning this. Information about the work of Alola and the gift packs can be found on the organisation's website at www.alola.org.au .
