Our dog died when our firstborn was about a year old (and still a VERY
frequent, avid nurser). We bought a new puppy and the first night I was up
constantly between the baby nursing and the dog crying and, of course the
inevitable happened. I picked up the puppy and opened my nightie to nurse
him! Fortunately his cold nose woke me up enough to realize what I was doing
and I had a good chuckle as I put him back down and picked up the baby
instead. Talk about adoptive nursing!
