Hi, All: I saw the exhibit with my kids last year in Chicago. At the time
my oldest (24), who was a cadaver prosector for the gross anatomy
department at Washington University, St. Louis, found the exhibit
fascinating. She said she would have loved to been involved in the
project! My other 2 (13 and 11) also were quite fascinated. Back in my
younger days, I used to teach college-level anatomy classes as well as my
experiences (including cadaver dissection in nursing school) with the human
body as a nurse, and also found this exhibit very interesting. I, too, was
a bit disappointed in the representative samples they had of a woman's
reproductive organs, including the breast. They had a separate section
curtained off with signage, so that the visitor could choose to view this
area of the exhibit, showing a cross-section of a pregnant woman with an 8
month fetus in utero, as well as fetuses of various gestational ages. The
fascinating process they used to obtain all these specimens was explained
and I felt the whole exhibit was tastefully and respectfully done, and can
be a good learning experience for children. I really liked the dissected-
out horse they had in the main room of the exhibit!
