Hypothyroidism is a classic cause of low milk production. When milk
production drops, baby needs to nurse more frequently and keep nursing
for longer! This makes perfect sense. You could prove/disprove moms
theory by pre and post feed weighing under both circumstances (on meds
and off meds).

The younger child has little interest in nursing, but her older child would just nurse, and has little interest in solid foods. Her main concern is that she has hypothyroidism, and feels that when she stops taking her medication, her younger child will nurse better. She says that the baby will stay actively sucking and swallowing longer, and want to nurse more frequently. Her doctor has reassured her that her thyroid medication is only bringing her body up to normal levels, and thus should not interfere with the breastfeeding. Any thoughts or experience with this would be greatly appreciated!
