Good to finally find a professional bf line! I am an RD/WIC Breastfeeding
Coordinator/waiting to hear IBCLC from Buffalo, NY. Have been with WIC for
12 yrs, love it, felt the need to expand my horizons 8 years ago, found a
clone in another WIC RD and began our BF Program. 2 yrs ago, expanded to
Peer Counseling with great success--we have very motivated Peers--and are
currently expanding yet again into the local hospitals to pitch in and
especially to link the new moms with follow-up.We think it will be beneficial
to all parties concerned. I am also a founding member of an organization
founded in 1989 by most of the Buffalo area LCs with the goal of
standardizing all breastfeeding info being given at all hospitals and WIC. I
am please to report that goal has been met. Can't imagine doing anything
else with my (professional) life. We are currently looking for any
conferences or materials re: the Neuro-impaired neonate. Seems we notice
things in some of these kiddos at 1 week during followup that didn't manifest
or get picked up during the 24-hr stay, or that the PMD hasn't seen yet, but
we need more info for research. Thanks. Looking forward to learning all
kinds of new things on Lactnet.
