Valerie writes: "I am not sure why breastfeeding advocates refuse to see
the big picture." I don't think that is the issue at all. Many of us
(probably more than you are aware of) have worked very hard for years as
individuals and in coalitions that approach governments and participate in
lobbing activities and speak and write, etc. about the protection of bfg
from industry. Marsha Walker and Chris Mulford are both special champions
of bfg in this regard in the US. Other countries have governmental
departments charged with monitoring formula manufacturers. I know for
myself that my own lobbying efforts have given me both the insight that
there are very big powers antagonistic towards bfg, but we have also seen
enough victories through activism that we keep laboring onward.

Perhaps there is less discussion of it on Lactnet because this is the
choir. What you hear as silence is either agreement, or bewilderment from
other list members at how to be effective in countering such a giant
adversary. I'm all for more activism. Any ideas for the folks on the list?

Here are mine:
*Join ILCA and get on one of the workgroups that deal with these issues
*Join WABA or NABA or IBFAN
*Form a local chapter of Healthy Mothers/Healthy Babies and create a
legislative committee like we did in Texas and get a bill relating to
breastfeeding as public policy on every legislative calendar
* Write letters to the editor
