A few collegues of mine have heard/read that pumping every 2-3 hours around
the clock for the first two weeks postpartum and then pumping 8-10X/day with
cluster pumping in the evening/morning allowing a longer sleep period (no more
than 6 hours) will ensure an adequate milk supply for the duration of pumping.
In the NICU where I work, we have been teaching mothers to pump 8-10X/day with
cluster pumping right from the start. But we have also been finding many long
term pumping moms are finding a dwindling milk supply at ~1 month postpartum.
I know this has been discussed previously on Lactnet as I have found some
posts on this topic while researching the archives but I was only able to find
very little. Does anyone have any further info to share on early pumping (esp
on pumping around the clock for 2 weeks)? Please share any bibliographies.
