Alright oh Wise Ones of Lactnet - I need some help/information. I did a
search of the archives for this condition, but came up entirely empty - a
rarity for Lactnet!

I have been asked about nursing during heriditary hypophosphatemia.
Client's brother has it as well. Client is pregnant; the baby will be
tested for the condition right after birth. Mother has been advised by her
OB not to breastfeed, because she "won't be passing any vitamin D on to her
baby."

Not knowing anything about this condition, it seems to me that she could
breastfeed and just supplement the baby with vitamin D, if that really is
the only cause for concern. Does anybody on Lactnet know more about this
condition? Are there other concerns with regards to breastfeeding? I did an
internet search and learned that this is an inherited form of rickets,
characterized by impaired transport of phosphate and diminished Vitamin D
metabolism in the kidneys.
This one's a first for me, so I'm looking forward to some input. My thanks
in advance!
