Why is this mother being made to feel as if it is HER milk or something she
is doing to cause this??? This is simply not true and if this child is
allergic cessation of breastfeeding will only make this worse. Read Lawences
chapters on milk and allergy.

The science of skin or blood testing for allergies is such an incomplete and
uncertain science and to cease breastfeeding due to such an inexact procedure
is a travesty.

For example, my son who is still allergic to milk products tested negative
for dairy yet he test VERY positive to peanuts. Well guess what still gives
him congestion, eczema and what he can eat any time with out a problem.

I agree with Teresa look to other allergens and possibly another skin
condition.

Have scabies been ruled out?
How about acrodermatitis enteropathica--a genetic zinc deficiancy or human
milk that is low in zinc. The rash can start as early as the 3 rd week in
infancy or not until later on. Symptoms include: symmetric rash around the
mouth, genitalia and periphery of the extrmities. The rash is an acute
vesicobullous and eczematous often secondarily infected with c. albicans.
Weaning worsens the gentic version. They can also have failure to thrive,
intractable diarrhea and hair loss. Treatment includes oral zinc.

If she chooses to try nutramagin cetainly would have her pump to maintain her
milk supply while she tries the "Magic" formula--it probably won't work
either!
