Judging Amy was so bad, it's almost absurd. The mother came off as a lunatic,
the father came off as spineless (afraid of the wife), the mother's lawyer
came off as incapable of defending the mother b/c her position was so
indefensible and the prosecutor openly made fun of bf and likened it to
inappropriate sucking on his own body parts (not far from exact words). The
child told the judge his friends make fun of him, he doesn't really care
about nursing and his mother gives him a thermos full of breastmilk every day
to take to school (b/c it is the "only milk I like"--so he likes breastmilk,
but is forced to breastfeed!!!--poor kid doesn't get cow milk like "normal
kids"). The judge said the mother was like "the lunatic running the asylum"
and was told she didn't care what people do in other countries, etc. She said
in 2001 in the US it is not to continue. The best part--the husband secretly
thanked the judge as he left the coutroom. And, just think, out there in the
world, millions of Americans have had their beliefs validated by a fictional
television show, which will give them permission to dismiss other viewpoints.
The power of television is awesome. Too bad it's on the wrong side.
