Janet, Although my peronal preference is to encourage moms to alternative
methods, i.e., barrier, or NFP (great bk on this -> Your Fertility
Signals:Merryl Winstein or can refer to Couple to Couple League), it's been
my experience that most mothers on mini pill or DP shots do not experience a
noticeable reduction in milk supply. MD's in my area prefer the DP shot.
Re:MIGRAINES. My husband says he finds some patients are not affected at all
by hormonal contraceptives; and others need to be switched to different
dosage, brand, or taken off, etc as they are affected.

Re: IUD'S. I would, personally, be very hesitant to recommend this. Some
moms have ethical prob with them & especially in early postpartum moms, the
uterine contractions can push IUD out, or cause it to pierce uterus, & they
are less effective than other methods. I used an IUD w1st child, only to
find I was PG at 1 yr., expel IUD & had a miscarriage at 2 mos.

Hope this helps!
