Melissa,
This poor mom has got to be overwhelmed! My 2nd baby did a weird latch and
caused horrible nipples, luckily they healed in about a month and I did not
get mastitis. Believe me, I was so worried I would and did not know if i
could take it!
What helped the nipple heal for me:
let the breast out in the open alot; use warm saline soaks or dabs with a
cotton ball (I cannot find the recipe). Use the pump and do not bf until
that nipple really heals. Extra vit C for wound healing. Good nutrition and
rest is essential. She has got to be run down, exhausted physically and
mentallly and her body working extra hard for all the healing and of course
she has to recover from pg, childbirth already.
I'm concerned about her going back to school. Anyway she can delay this?
Good luck to her. If she is spiritual/religious person I recommend prayers
to Our Lady of La Leche.

p.s. There is a shrine to Our Lady of LL in St. Aug, Fla and they have
wonderful prayer cards and medals. I wore the medal pinned on my bra during
that trying time. If it's OK to post the address I will do so. Owners
respond please.
