We have a patient who has spontaniously developed mastits. Her youngest child
is 5 yr. old. She did BF her children. Presented with classic symptoms;
bright red inflamed tissue, swelling, fever, severe pain. She has no
recollection of recent trauma to breast, sono is neg for tumor,abcess,fluid
collection. It is to painful for mamo at this time. No hx of mastits with
BF.She is responding well to IV antibiotics (the most dramatic improvement
came when I began putting cool cabbage to breast.) My Doc's have seen this 2
other times,( they also spontaniously resolved with no return of symptoms)
and they would like to know if there is an etiology for this?
To D. Karnbach - we have good success treating low milk/slow milk with Reglan
( can I say that ?) 10 mg. po Qid for 3 -5 days. We use it primarily with
moms who are 5 - 7 days PP with insuff. milk supply. One mom who had "failed
" BF with her first child for "no milk", sure enough had "no milk" on day 6
with 2nd child, called me elated to be engorged 3 days after starting med. (
she was also using massage, freq feeds and relaxation at the same time ).
Anyone else using this to increase milk supply ?
