SUBJECT: Intro and Lupus

Dear Lactnetters,

I am a La Leche League Leader in Jerusalem, Israel. I have been a
Leader for seven years. I co-lead meetings and do some phone counselling,
though not as much as a few years ago.

I have a question for everyone out there. I had a phone call from a
woman who was told that it is dangerous for her to continue nursing during
her current pregnancy. History: Her first pregnancy ended in an induced
abortion for spina bifida. Her second pregnancy was completely normal.
She bf her 2 1/2 year old throughout the third pregnancy; during her third
pregnancy, she had both hepatitis and mononucleosis; she had an IUGR baby
with minor problems. After surgery, the baby did well and was fully BF.
She was since diagnosed with mild incomplete lupus syndrome (ILS). She
was told that the baby's problems were *not* due to the ILS. Now,
however, her GP is telling her that with the ILS if she doesn't wean the
toddler, she is in danger of another IUGR baby. Does anybody have
experience with (or references on) a mother with lupus or "cousin" nursing
throughout a pregnancy? Incidentally, her doctor is against bf during
pregnancy; he advised her last time to wean during pregnancy before she
was diagnosed with ILS.

Please answer me privately on E-mail <[log in to unmask]> as I am on
NOMAIL. TIA.
