Pat Young asks:
Does formula lower the IQ or does breast milk enable the infant to reach
it's full IQ potential? there has to be a etter way to say this! Pat in
SNJ Goodnight all

What about:
Formula (or lack of breastmilk, depending on one's inclination) prevents the
brain from developing normally. Because of this, the IQ is lower than it
normally would be. ('normally' referring to breastfeeding)

Reading that over it sounds very dramatic, but it fits with the example
someone (Linda Smith? Deb Bocar? I apologize I can't remember) gives that
a difference of 8 points is no big deal when you're talking a discrepancy
between 100 and 108, it's the difference between 68 and 76 that is much more
important - with anything under 75 or 70 (depending on the criteria)
qualifying as mentally retarded.

Pondering on my way out the door to attend a presentation on changing risk
factors for infant mortality...
