I live close enough to these Octuplets to go and do just this. My two children are baby pros at 10 and 13, and I think they would just love to go hold and feed and diaper babies... I'm trying to figure out how to get in touch with the mom, in a few months of course, when the baby's come home. The African American woman on the news, the head doctor, I've met her once or twice, and the hospital where the babies were born is the same one we go to...

I do have to say, Kaiser, at least in my area, generally does well with breastfeeding. Both with my own personal experience and those of women I know, they do more than a lip service for breastfeeding. I do believe these babies will get breastmilk, at least in the beginning.

For a year, we had the "Quad Squad" - a group of mostly ladies who volunteered their time to be at the house to help with the babies or with their two older children. Others brought meals and I think they had supper provided to them for most of that first year. Others did diaper or bottle-feeding duty. I wanted to be able to help but I had young children who needed me at home and I was pregnant with my third and too sick to really be of any use. I did send some meals in later months when I was feeling better. The help was phased out slowly so the parents didn't go into shock when everyone no longer came. We had heard that this has happened to other families of multiples - that help arrives and a few months later, disappears leaving the parents baffled & unable to cope. This is the kind of help & support this family needs and I hope they have a loving church or neighbourhood community that can pitch in and help them out when they get home!
