I found this citation in NURSES DRUG ALERT VOL XIX AUG 95 NO8 page 63. It
discusses a case report from Journal of Clinical
Psychiatry1995;56(june):243-245. It discusses a 28 yr old woman who took
nortriptyline and sertraline(Zoloft) for depression throughout pregancy and
BF. Attempts to stop the drugs during preg, were unsuccessful. They measure
the antidepressant in BM, maternal serum and infant serum at 3 weeks and 7
weeks of age. BM samples were taken before the single HS dose of med and at
each feeding for the next 24 hours. Serum levels were check 12 hours after
drug was taken. The levels in BM peaked at samples 5 and 9 hours after
dosing. Levels of both drugs were undectable in the infants serum. The child
had normal growth and development. The level of dection in the assays of the
infant were .5ng/ml for sertraline and 10ng/ml for nortriptyline, so that
means that if there was any drug in the infant it was below the levels noted
above. The study was funded by Pfizer.
