The piece on GMA "breastfeeding beyond one year" was generated by
Heidi the author of _What to Expect When Your Expecting_ .
I was contacted as a resource for the mothers to be interviewed. I
referred two friends presently nursing children past a year, one a
mother of four year old nursing twins and her nursing 18 month old.
Yeah she is a LLLL, no one asked and she never mentioned it. My other
friend is nursing her 15 month old without any intention of weaning. I
was told the other mothers gathered to be interviewed were also very pro
breastfeeding beyond a year, and a strongly opinionated educated group
of women. This never clearly came across from the women during the
edited aired show.

GMA edited interviews to fit a message they wanted to convey. The
comments were sound bites, out of context from how the mothers were
really expressing themselves. I thought the segment was okay, the
editing process and GMA interviewer comments didn't give out any
unsupportive mis information. I thought it's major flaw was the
"Vanilla" journalistic reporting style.

IMO Heidi still has some major mind shifting to do about really
supporting breastfeeding beyond a year.
She should change the mis-information in her books. Especially the
nonsense she has about breast milk loosing it's nutritional value after
a year. I was told she chooses to follow only Pediatric Medical
textbooks for all her recommendations .
We know and so does she how outdated and filled with misinformation
those texts are about Breastfeeding.
I've recently given her 'people' a local name and number for accurate
information ( Dr Christine Smillie IBCLC).

Heidi's book "What to Expect When your Expecting" and some of the others
are updated and printed every six months, maybe the AAP new
breastfeeding policy guidelines and the local IBCLC contact will
convince her to change the books and her mind.
