Laurie, I heard the radio report too.  It said that "Second Lady" (Vice
President' wife) Tipper Gore had joined with Gerber in announcing a "major
initiative" to promote public awareness of the "back to sleep" campaign to
reduce SIDS.  What got *my* attention was that in addition to notices on
their cereal boxes, Gerber will MAIL 3,000,000 new parents each year, it
says, "with information."  I wonder what else will be in it.  I wonder if
there will be anything about breastfeeding and its relationship to SIDS.  Hmmm.

I am very, very leery ....  from my vantage point, looks like the U.S. Gov't
just said "go right ahead" to an ABM manufacturer who wants the gov't's
blessing to contact every single new parent in the U.S. (not that they don't
do it already).  And it didn't escape my attention that Tipper has in the
past been quoted as being VERY pro-breastfeeding;  I know she nursed all
four of her kids.  Of course, nothing was said about *that.*

I visited the Gerber web site last night, figuring that they'd be blowing
their own horn pretty loudly on this, but got *nothing.*  Keep watching!
