Hello everyone!! I have a couple of questions that I need some help with.
First I am wondering if there are any studies showing the immunological
properties of induced lactation compared to lactation following a pregnancy.
I have a mom that is very interested in relactating for a 24 month old child
that she breastfed for 3 mos. The child has been ill with RSV numerous times
and is asthmatic as well. The mom realizes the committment that will be
required of her to induce lactation. She approached me about this from the
standpoint that she wants to do it for the child's health. I do not want to
dismiss this mom idea, but certainly do not have any experience with a child
this old. Would it indeed help this child, if the mother could provide
breastmilk??
Second question is that I have now heard on 3 separate occasions of mother's
being told that they have CAUSED an anaphylactic reaction to peanuts in their
child, by eating peanuts while breastfeeding. I do not understand this. The
allergist said that the child was sensitized to the peanuts through the
breastmilk. How could the allergist know this?? Couldn't this sensitization
also occur during gestation?? There is now a mom on the internet---with the
mission to WARN every breastfeeding woman of the dangers of consuming peanuts
(or citrus, dairy, wheat) while breastfeeding. She is stating that LLL is
trying to "cover-up" this information. I am just not knowledgeable enough on
this subject. Please help....
Happy Holidays to all :)
