About the psychiatrists' comments about breast or bottle depending on the
baby's personality:
The only thing I've heard of from a mother that even closely resembles this
is one woman (who did end up breastfeeding both of her daughters) who
reflected our cultural fear that breastfeeding will be a sexual experience
when she said "When I was pregnant with my first child I thought I wanted
to breastfeed. Then I thought, 'But what if it's a girl?!" On the other
hand, "What if it's a boy?!" The sex of the baby never occurred to me as a
factor in the decision to breastfeed but I suppose it could be if the woman
is homophobic and has a girl or just is too concerned about it being sexual
and has a boy....? Anyone ever read any studies on whether more girl or
boy babies are breastfed?
