In theory, ethics and profits are not absolutely incompatible.

In practice, they are not compatible in a 50 billion dollar global industry
that should dramatically downsize (difficult to say precisely by how much,
but surely dramatically) to become an ethical agent in the public health
arena. You can't realistically expect somebody to voluntarily submit to a
diet changing his weight by some orders of magnitude :-)

So the solution must be “starve the beast”, relentlessly, and this has to
be done also by strong measures of public health policy. After a strict
diet, ethics and profits could even coexist, hopefully.
