Dear Lactnetters,

I am very behind on my reading, so I have just read about the list of
occurrences thought to predispose children to dental caries by age two. I
have a son ( almost 3 now) who has significant dental problems- lots of
decay. I found it very interesting that I spent my entire pregnancy in
bereavement, since we had just lost Nick's brother 2 months before the
pregnancy began. I also had strep (with antibiotic treatment) late in the
pregnancy. Coincidentally, Nick had a near fatal bout with strep at 2 1/2
months ( don't know if that's significant).

The pediatric dentist who did the filings several months ago ( 5 or 6 I
think) blasted me for nursing him still. Says I caused his decay and will
continue to if I don't stop NOW. Very unpleasant guy. Amazing that my 8
year old daughter escaped all those night nursings without a cavity!

Just thought the research was interesting in light of our experience.

Nick is still having problems with ongoing decay, but we have found a much
more agreeable dentist who will see him often and work on the cavities as
they arise without sedating. Big relief. Still night nursing, but feeling
less guilty after reading Lacnet. Thanks.
