You will all be thrilled{?} to hear that 2 articles, 1 editorial and 1
letter to ed in JAMA, May 16, 2001, Vol.285, No. 19 pages 2446, 2447;
2453-2507; 2461-2460 and 2506-2507. Association between infant bf and
overweight in young children - reduced risk of overweight, stat sig; no
reduced risk of being overweight; no dose dependent effect. Most
contributing factor was mom's concurrent weight (she's fat, kids are
fat-dietary habits - duh). Risk of overweight among adolescents who were
bf as infants. BF over 7 mo was protective for being overweight as teen.
Ed. BF may help prevent childhood overweight SO-so. This is my scientific
version of skimming these heavily research based articles. Someone with a
head for stats - please give us your interpretation! Sincerely, Pat inSNJ
