Julie Merrill RNC IBCLC San Luis Obispo, Ca.
Today I saw a breastfeeding mother who
was 2 days postpartum with a 9lb. 6oz. fullterm infant
which has been nursing well since birth. The mother
had gastric bypass surgery a few years ago and
wondered how this would effect her milk. She no
longer digests dairy and was also anemic with the
pregnancy and attributed this to the surgery. She had
another child and breastfed without problems prior to
the gastric bypass. I could not find any info in Ruth
Lawrence 's, Jack Newman's, or the LLL Answer Book. I
would appreciate any info or guidance. The mother
gives me permission to post . Thank You, Julie
Merrill
