<< Jennifer, I am sorry if my comments about vaccinations offended you or
anyone else on LactNet. LactNet is not the place to debate the vaccination
issue, any more than such topics as circumcision or abortion -- I was using
that as an analogy.

I do believe most health care professionals understand that both
breastfeeding and vaccination provide the best health outcomes for children,
and this (health outcomes for children) is one of the basic bottom lines for
me.

Perhaps one has to spend time in a country where vaccinations are not
available to truly understand what life is like where children still die
from polio, measles, tetanus, diphtheria, and whooping cough.

And remember that if a mother chooses to formula-feed her child, only her
own child's health suffers as a result, whereas if she chooses not to
vaccinate her child, she increases the risk of disease for all children in
the community.

 Kathy,
If you felt this was not the place to debate this issue (which I *did not*
do, but rather addressed the philosophical points), you would not have taken
the opportunity to follow your "apology" with a diatribe about the
"irresponsible" behavior of parents like myself who choose, with eyes wide
open, not to vaccinate our children. There are many things, including
artificial baby milk, once promoted by the majority of HCP's which are no
longer considered to "provide the best health outcomes". So, my point remains
the same--this is an understandable analogy in terms of lack of support for
bf, but unacceptable on a list where some of us, no less educated, caring or
wise than others, make different decisions.
