Has anyone ever heard of a mother experiencing diarrhea every time she
breastfeeds her baby? Care Northwest (information line for drugs during
pregnancy and lactation, serving the Pacific Northwest) received a call
today about the safety of antidiarrhea medication during lactation. The
mother, a 3-week post-cesarean multip, gets diarrhea with each nursing
session. Sounds like a response to oxytocin to me (contractions of the
muscles lining the colon?) but I couldn't find anything in the texts.
