Elisheva asks: "Or is it practical, or appropriate, for hospitals to have
requested donor
milk in advance and have it essentially sitting around in the freezer
waiting
for the next hypoglycemic (or etc) baby who needs it?"

The short answer is YES; the longer answer involves educating hospitals
(well, the people who run hospitals) that this is the answer. It seems like
a very simple process, too - the hospital keeps a small amount on hand, and
the cost (which is small) is charged to the babies who need it. Just like
anything else in the hospital - meds, equipment, etc. Just like how formula
SHOULD be handled.

Our local breastfeeding coalition is getting ready to start working on this
very thing with our hospital. Any experience out there? You can e-mail me or
Diane W. privately.
